This Malayalam film selected as India's official entry for 2024 Oscars
Mumbai, September 27: The Malayalam film '2018: Everyone is a Hero,' featuring the talented actor Tovino Thomas, has been chosen as India's official entry for the 2024 Academy Awards. This exciting announcement was made by the Film Federation of India on a Wednesday that will be remembered in the world of Indian cinema.
In 2018, Kerala witnessed the devastating floods that left behind a trail of destruction and sorrow. However, amidst the despair, stories of extraordinary heroism emerged, and one such tale became a phenomenon in Malayalam cinema. This survival drama not only claimed the title of the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year but also secured its place among the top three highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.
Directed by the visionary filmmaker Jude Anthany Joseph, the movie beautifully portrays the resilience of individuals from diverse backgrounds who find themselves thrust into the heart of a calamity. It's a story of unity becoming their driving force, a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
Tovino Thomas, the lead actor, expressed his elation, saying, "Being chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars is truly an incredible recognition for our film. It’s not just a moment of pride for me as an actor, but for the entire team that poured their heart and soul into this project."

The film '2018: Everyone is a Hero' is a production of Venu Kunnappilly, CK Padmakumar, and Anto Joseph. It is currently available for streaming on the OTT platform Sony Liv.
The movie, apart from Tovino Thomas, also features an ensemble cast including Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Indrans, Sudheesh, Gilu Joseph, Vinitha Koshy, Aju Varghese, Thanvi Ram, and Gauthami Nair.
The 96th Oscars ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2024, in the glamorous city of Los Angeles. The Academy has set the submission deadline for general categories for the 2024 Oscars for November 18, 2023. Preliminary voting for the shortlists will begin on December 18, with the results announced on December 21. Following that, the nominations voting period will run from January 11-16, 2024, with the official nominations announcement on January 23.
With four weeks between nominations and final voting, which starts on February 22, the world eagerly awaits the grand event. The Oscars will be broadcast live on ABC and in over 200 territories worldwide from the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
