Farmers Protest: Farmers to observe ‘Daman Virodh Divas’ today

As announced by Samyukta Kisan Morcha, farmers, protesting against the Centre's farm laws 2020 at Delhi borders for over 90 days, are observing 'Daman Virodhi Divas' in an order to intensify their agitation. The call for Daman Virodhi Divas by Samyukta Kisan Morcha has been given to oppose the suppression of farmers by the Central government by enforcing these farm laws on them. Also, the motive is to highlight that the farmers be respected and that no “repressive measures” should be taken against them. Earlier on Tuesday, farmers celebrated Pagadi Sambhal Divas which was celebrated in the memory of Chacha Ajit Singh and Swami Sahajanand Saraswati. Farmers sported regional turbans. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at Delhi borders against farm laws for over 90 days. The protest at the outskirts of Delhi has entered the 92nd day. While farmers have been demanding the repeal of farm laws 2020 and a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops, the government is adamant on its proposal regarding the suspension of farm laws for 1-2 years and discuss laws clause-wise. Farmers have been protesting against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
