Former Punjab Deputy CM OP Soni receives extortion call; FIR lodged
Chandigarh, June 22: Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni reportedly received an extortion call on his personal number on Wednesday.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by former Punjab minister OP Soni, an FIR has been registered against unknown persons(s) in Amritsar. Notably, a few days ago, former Ajnala MLA Amarpal Singh Bony had also reportedly received an extortion call.

In his complaint, former Punjab Deputy CM OP Soni said he received several WhatsApp calls on his personal number, wherein caller(s) sought extortion from him, failing which he was threatened of dire consequences.

OP Soni has been in politics for over 35 years. Fearing threat, he has demanded proper security to him and his family.

Former MLA Boney had also received threats
A few days ago, Amarpal Singh Boney, a former MLA from Ajnala, had also received threats. He also got calls on WhatsApp and the caller introduced himself as a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Since then the police have increased Boney's security.
Sony was the first to file a writ regarding security
Former Deputy CM OP Soni had first filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reduced the security of VIPs. But after the killing of Sidhu Moosewala, everyone's security was restored. Following the latest threat, OP Soni's security has been further increased by the Amritsar Police.
