Haryana minister hits out at opposition for targeting Centre over incidents of rape

Haryana minister Anil Vij has slammed the Opposition for attacking the BJP-led central government over incidents of rape, asking whether such incidents did not occur during the UPA regime. "Incidents of rape did not take place during the UPA regime?" he shot back while responding to a reporter's question in Kaithal. The state health minister was asked about the Congress' allegation that incidents of rape were on the rise during the BJP rule at the Centre. "If such (rape) incidents are happening in this regime, then tell me about one case, in which the Haryana government did not take action," Vij said, adding, "The opposition does not have any issues now." The Congress has mounted an attack on the BJP-led regime at the Centre, saying incidents of violence against women and children were increasing in the country. An eight-year-old girl from the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community had gone missing from a spot near her house in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on January 10. A week later, her body was found from the same area. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the incident, has arrested eight persons, including two special police officers (SPOs) and a head constable, in connection with the incident. PTI
