In a major encounter, a terrorist was killed by the security forces on Sunday in Sopore district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the information, an encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir after the security forces conducted search operation in the area after receiving a specific input about the presence of militants in the area.
Meanwhile, the operation is still underway as some more terrorists are believed to be present in the area. The operation was carried out jointly by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The identification of the killed terrorist is yet to be identified.
The encounter broke out in Rebban area of Sopore earlier this morning. As the security forces arrived at the spot where terrorists were hiding, the militants opened fire triggering the encounter.
The Army said in a press statement that the joint operation was launched in the early morning on inputs received by the Jammu and Kashmir police. "Cordon was laid and contact established. Firefight ensued. Joint Operation in progress," it added.
