Kharar: Police avert possible target killing attempt; one held with 3 pistols
Chandigarh, May 8: Thwarting a possible target killing attempt, Punjab Police arrested one accused from Nadiala chowk in Kharar on Saturday.
The arrested accused was identified as Gurinder Singh alias Guri Shera of village Sindhwan in Fatehgarh Sahib. Guri Shera has a criminal record with six cases including extortion, arms act, snatching, and dacoity registered against him in the state.
Punjab police also recovered two .30 caliber pistols and one .32 caliber pistol along with 10 cartridges from his possession.
Giving information about the arrest, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ropar Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that following reliable inputs that Guri Shera along with his associate (Gurpreet Singh alias Jony of village Malakpur Jatta in Patiala) are indulged in illicit smuggling of weapons, a case was registered against them at City Kharar Police Station in SAS Nagar.

He further said that acting on the tip-off, police teams under the supervision of SSP SAS Nagar Vivek Sheel Soni apprehended Guri Shera and recovered three pistols and ammunition from his possession.
During the preliminary investigation, Guri revealed that he used to obtain arms and ammunition from states such as Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and that he was directed by a European-based handler to target an individual in an important city in Punjab, according to DIG. Bhullar went on to say that the accused was also paid Rs 1.50 lakh for arms/ammunition and logistical support to commit this sensational crime. He also stated that they used to deliver these weapons to their gang members in Punjab.
The DIG stated that additional investigations are being conducted to uncover the conspiracy and that Guri's aide Gurpreet Singh alias Jony will be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, FIR No. 87 dated 30-04-2022 has been filed at the Police Station under Sections 25 (7) and (8) of the Arms Act.
