Mahesh Bhatt to make docudrama on Punjabi Varsity officer’s book on prominent Indian Sikhs
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt will turn host for a reality web series as he is set to make a docudrama on prominent Sikhs of India. The series 'Pehchaan - The Unscripted Show', which will be streamed on an OTT platform, is based on the book by Punjabi University Patiala officer Dr Prabhleen Singh.
In the show, the audience will get a glimpse into the lives of real Indian heroes.
Much like the content of Dr Prabhleen's book, the 16-episode docudrama will feature inspiring stories of Sikhs and interview sessions of prominent Sikh personalities like environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal, Economist Montek Singh, Amritsar based Pingalwara charitable society president Dr Inderjit Kaur, Dubai based businessman SP Singh Oberoi, among others. The series, which aims at showcasing Dr Prabhleen Singh's life and inspirational journeys of Sikhs to the world's attention, is under production and will be launched on an OTT platform.
Talking about the upcoming show, the makers said, "In the times post-pandemic, we wanted for the audience to witness something real and inspirational and so we chose to bring real heroes to your screen. We hope for it to be one of the biggest and most influential shows of the year."
Filmmaker and show's host Mahesh Bhatt while speaking about the idea said, “What a time in the life of a world being inhabited, it was daunting, full of turmoil and fear. And yet it dazzling be, full of promise, creativity and care. These thoughts struck me when I saw brave Sikhs of my country and around the world step out during the pandemic and do what I had never imagined."

"The God of signs had come down on his knees and every institution imaginable had failed to help mankind through these dark times. It was they who came out and endlessly served their fellow human being," he continued.
"The images of their generosity are burnt in my heart and body which gave birth to the idea of talking to this brave community that has been serving humankind over more than 500 years. I chose to interview these brave, humble, kind human beings for people around the world to get not only a taste of faith, but also get a glimpse of their great history. I call them the warriors of the 21st century. They only inherited from their gurus and forefathers had left a legacy with them,” stated Bhatt.
In the 16 episodes, the series will also showcase 16 heart-touching songs as a tribute to the guests.
About Dr Prabhleen Singh and his book
Class-A officer on Punjabi University campus, Dr Prabhleen Singh wrote and published the book 'Prominent Sikhs of India' in 2018.
The book includes inspirational success stories from 50 renowned Sikhs, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, environmentalist Sant Seechewal, former SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, and Punjabi writer Surjit Pattar, along with a message for youth.
Mahesh Bhatt decided to make a series out of the book, titled "Pehchaan- The Unscripted Show."
