#MeToo: Punjab Minister accused of sending inappropriate text The Indian political system has its roots in patriarchy and misogyny. It is infused with silence and sufferings. Once in a while, the moment comes in the nation’s life that challenges the reputation and credibility of the ruling political party. And, this time, the moment is faced by Congress, because of Punjab Technical Education Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi. The IAS officer, brought the entire incident to the state authorities' notice. One month back, she complained against Channi, to a senior member in the government. Later, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Capt. Amarinder Singh, learned about this matter. Shiromani Akali Dal asked the Congress Party to take some necessary actions. The SAD party has demanded Channi’s resignation. SAD said, “As per media reports no action has been taken against a cabinet minister who had sent indecent messages to a woman IAS officer more than one and a half months back. Despite the fact that the IAS officer had brought the matter to the notice of her superior officers and even the chief minister, no action has been taken so far. The chief minister must immediately tell the people why he is trying to cover up this heinous act by first naming and shaming the minister and then taking concrete action against him by sacking him from the State cabinet. He told the media sources that the matter has been taken very seriously. He said, “The matter was brought to my notice some weeks ago and I had asked the minister to apologize and sort it out with the lady officer. I understand he had done so to the satisfaction of the officer and thus the matter was resolved.” -PTC NEWS
