2024 Lok Sabha elections: Kejriwal announces jailed MLA Chaitar Vasava as candidate from Bharuch seat
2024 Lok Sabha Elections: In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party has named jailed MLA Chaitar Vasava as the party's candidate for the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat.
The Aam Aadmi Party launched its Lok Sabha election campaign today with a public rally in Bharuch.
While speaking at the rally, Kejriwal urged people to vote for Chaitra Vasava in the Lok Sabha elections. Vasava, a Bharuch MLA from the Dediapada assembly, is jailed.
"Chetar Vasava is in jail but now he will be the candidate for the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat. No other party has yet started the process for its candidate in Bharuch, but the AAP party announced its candidate in Sunday's meeting," he stated.
AAP MLA Chetar Vasava is constantly embroiled in controversy. He has been imprisoned for the past two months. On December 18, a local court in Dediapada, Narmada district, sentenced Chaitar to judicial custody at the conclusion of a three-day police remand in the November 2 case of alleged extortion and assault on forest officials.
However, the AAP party is seizing this opportunity. If MLA Chetar Vasava is not released, Kejriwal has stated that Vasava will fight the election from behind bars, and people will go door to door carrying the candidate's photo to get votes.
"Chaitra Vasava of the Aam Aadmi Party is a very popular tribal leader. He and his wife have been jailed for several days by the BJP Gujarat government in a fake case. Today I and Bhagwant Mann ji are going to Gujarat. We will meet people in his area and tomorrow we will go to meet him in jail," Delhi CM said on X.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won all 26 seats in Gujarat in the previous Lok Sabha elections.
However, the AAP made its presence felt in Gujarat in the state assembly elections held in 2022, with five of its leaders easily winning.
