24-year-old Karnal man dies in road accident in California, sparks political outrage
PTC News Desk: A 24-year-old from Haryana's Karnal died in a road accident in California, US, leaving his family shattered. The deceased has been identified as Ashish Mann, of Wazirchand Colony and a native of Baragaon village.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained but the family is being told that the truck collided with a roadside tree.
Ashish worked as a truck driver and went to the United States via illegal dunkey route, in order to improve his family's financial conditions.
His elder brother Ankur said that he used to speak to Ashish daily, but on the day of the accident, his phone was switched off. “The family received a call from his friends and natives of Baragaon from the US at night informing them about the tragic incident. Now they were waiting for autopsy and promised that they will make arrangements to send the body for last rites in India,” he added.
Ashish's accidental death on foreign soil has parked political row in India with Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala blaming rising unemployment that forces Haryana's youth to risk their lives by migrating abroad through unsafe means. “Another family in Haryana has lost its son due to the unemployment crisis," he said.
He further alleged that instead of addressing unemployment and hopelessness, the government seems focused only on holding onto power, ignoring the grief and struggles of ordinary families.
