4.3 magnitude earthquake jolts J-K's Katra; two aftershocks in Doda

Jammu and Kashmir, June 14: An earthquake of 4.3 magnitude rocked Jammu-Kashmir's Katra town in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The earthquake took place at 2:20 at a depth of 10 km, 81 km ENE of Katra, according to the National Centre for Seismology. "An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter Scale hit 81km ENE of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir at around 2.20 am today," the National Centre for Seismology said.


According to officials, the first aftershock measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred in Doda at 2.20 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by another measuring 2.7 at 2.43 a.m.

According to reports from Doda, residents were scared after Tuesday's earthquake, which caused cracks in some government and private properties in the area.

Earlier on Tuesday, an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Jammu and Kashmir's Doda. The earthquake occurred at 1:33 pm.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:5.4, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 Km, Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India," NCS tweeted.

Strong tremors of the earthquake were also felt in the national capital and parts of north India.

On the morning of June 9, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Union Territory of Ladakh.
