Actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath among 22 booked in fake investment scam in Uttar Pradesh
PTC Web Desk: An FIR has been registered against 22 persons, including Bollywood actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath, for allegedly promoting a bogus finance company that defrauded hundreds of investors in western Uttar Pradesh. The accused reportedly lured people with false promises of doubling their investments within a year.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Praveen Singh Chauhan, the company, Urban State Credit Cooperative Society Limited, was headquartered in Loni and ran its operations across districts such as Baghpat, Meerut, and Ghaziabad through a network of agents.
The police said the company strategically used well-known film celebrities to build public trust. “Shreyas Talpade was presented as the company’s promoter, while Alok Nath was introduced as the brand ambassador to attract investors,” Chauhan stated.
Over 500 investors reportedly deposited large sums of money, hoping to receive double returns. However, after the maturity period, investors discovered that the company’s office was shut down and its officials had disappeared.
It is learnt that the company even forged signatures to misappropriate the deposited funds. Following several complaints, the police registered a case under sections related to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.
The police have initiated a detailed probe to trace all suspects, review their bank accounts, and determine the level of involvement of the celebrities whose names and images were used in the company’s promotional campaigns.
