Ajmer shocker: Woman throws 3-year-old daughter into lake after taunts from live-in partner
PTC Web Desk: In a shocking case, a 28-year-old woman allegedly killed her three-year-old daughter by throwing her into Ana Sagar Lake in Ajmer. The police said the crime was reportedly driven by repeated taunts from her live-in partner over having a child from her previous marriage. The accused, identified as Anjali alias Priya, originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, worked as a receptionist at a local hotel in Ajmer, where her partner Alkesh was also employed.
According to the police, Anjali had put her daughter to sleep with a lullaby before taking her out near the lake late at night. CCTV footage later showed her carrying the child in her arms around Ana Sagar Lake. Hours later, she was seen alone, talking on her mobile phone, contradicting her claim that the girl had suddenly gone missing.
The incident came to light when head constable Govind Sharma spotted Anjali and Alkesh during a late-night patrol in Vaishali Nagar. Anjali initially told the police that her daughter had disappeared while they were out walking. However, CCTV evidence raised suspicion.
On Wednesday morning, the body of the child was recovered from the lake. During questioning, Anjali broke down and confessed to killing her daughter. The accused said she was in stress due to her partner’s repeated taunts. She claimed Alkesh was informed about the child’s disappearance only after the incident, around 2 am.
The Christian Ganj police have arrested Anjali on charges of murder and are investigating whether Alkesh played any role in the incident.
