Andhra Pradesh on edge as Cyclone Montha to make landfall today, 65 trains cancelled, flights disrupted

PTC News Desk: With Cyclone Montha intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been placed on high alert, with authorities carrying out mass evacuations and gearing up for landfall expected near Kakinada on Monday night. The cyclone, with wind speeds reaching up to 110 kmph, has already brought heavy rainfall and strong gusts along the coastal regions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Andhra Pradesh of full central support as the state grapples with high tides, flooding, and major disruptions.

Railway authorities have cancelled over 65 passenger and express trains across coastal Andhra Pradesh in anticipation of the storm. The cancellations affect major routes passing through Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, and Bhimavaram and will remain effective from October 28 to 29.

Officials stated that train operations will resume only after a detailed safety inspection once weather conditions stabilise. The East Coast Railway has also suspended multiple services along the Odisha-Andhra stretch as a precautionary measure.

Air travel has been hit as well, with all IndiGo and Air India Express flights scheduled for October 28 at Visakhapatnam Airport cancelled due to severe weather. Passengers have been urged to confirm flight updates before heading to the airport.
