Arvind Kejriwal to resign today, AAP to announce new Delhi CM at 12pm
PTC News Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will quit today, disrupting the national capital's political landscape ahead of the assembly elections early next year. On Monday, Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and a group of AAP leaders met to discuss his successor. The suspense over who will become Delhi's chief minister continues.
All eyes are now on Tuesday's AAP legislative party meeting, which begins at 11.30 a.m.
If all goes as planned and there are no surprises, Kejriwal will meet with Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena at 4.30 pm to tender his resignation.
Simultaneously, the legislative party's suggested name for the new CM will be presented to the LG. It was unclear whether the new leader of the legislative party would accompany Kejriwal or stake a claim later. Once the CM resigns, the entire cabinet must follow suit.
The new legislative party leader will appoint a new council of ministers, who will take the oath of office. The majority will then have to be proved on the House floor.
In a shocking turn of events, Kejriwal on Sunday announced his decision to resign as Delhi Chief Minister. Addressing party workers, he stated that he would not take the CM's seat unless the people gave him a "certificate of honesty". He also stated that another member of the party would take over as CM.
Atishi - The unexpected announcement has sparked speculation about Kejriwal's potential successor as the next Chief Minister, with AAP leader Atishi emerging as one of the most likely choices.

The AAP leader is in charge of several significant portfolios in Kejriwal's government, including Women and child development, education, tourism, art, culture and Language, Public Works Department, and power.
Raghav Chadha - Chadha is a Rajya Sabha MP and one of the party's most prominent figures. Chadha formerly worked as a chartered accountant and has been with the AAP since its beginnings. He was an MLA from Rajinder Nagar and played an important part in the AAP's landslide victory in Punjab in the 2022 state election. The 35-year-old is one of the country's most renowned young legislators, known for effectively presenting the AAP's position on important issues in Parliament.
Saurabh Bharadwaj - The AAP leader currently holds 7 departments, including Vigilance, services, health, industries, urban development, irrigation and flood control, and water.
Kailash Gahlot - He handles 8 departments - law, justice and legislative affairs, transport, administrative reforms, IT, revenue, finance, planning, and all other departments not specifically allotted to any minister.
Gopal Rai - The AAP leader holds a portfolio of development, general administration department, environment, and forest and wildlife in the national capital.
