Baddi fire update: Fire under control; 4 dead, rescue operation underway

PTC Web Desk:  Himachal DGP Sanjay Kundu on Saturday issued an update in the Baddi factory fire stating that the situation is under control to a significant extent. Of the 85 persons present at the factory when the fire broke out, four people lost their life. As many as 30 persons are currently admitted to hospitals. As of now, no one is reported missing, he added. The fire has been brought under control to a considerable extent, and the situation is expected to be clearer by the evening.

Notably, a massive fire broke out at NR aroma perfue factory located in the Baddi industrial area of Himachal Pradesh's Solan district.

According to Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma, in a desperate bid to escape the flames, trapped workers resorted to jumping from the first and second floors of the building, resulting in multiple injuries, including those to the hands, legs, and spine. The injured were rushed to various medical facilities for treatment.

The cause of the fire at the perfume factory in Baddi remains unclear, and a forensic team has been deployed to conduct a thorough investigation. Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma highlighted the challenges faced during the rescue operation, stating that some workers managed to run home, and efforts were underway to verify their names.

As a precautionary measure, adjacent buildings were evacuated, and the affected area cordoned off. Eyewitnnesses said thick smoke, emanating from the cosmetic materials within the factory, hampered firefighting efforts. Workers had climbed to the top of the building for safety.

Emergency response teams, including 12-13 fire tenders from Nalagarh, Baddi, Parwanoo, Haryana, and the Chandimandir Army station, were swiftly deployed to the scene. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also joined the rescue operations at Jhadmazri. Despite their concerted efforts, the fire tenders faced significant challenges in dousing the flames due to the inflammable substances used in the manufacturing of perfumes and other cosmetics catching fire.

Critical cases among the injured were promptly taken to PGI Chandigarh, ESI Katha, Baddi Hospital, and Brooklyn Hospital. Unfortunately, one person died in the tragic incident.
