Bengaluru court frames murder charges against actor Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others in Renukaswamy case

PTC Web Desk:  The 64th Sessions Court in Bengaluru on Monday framed charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and unlawful assembly against Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. All 17 accused pleaded not guilty. The court has fixed November 10 as the date for the trial to begin.

The case dates back to June 9, 2024, when Renukaswamy (33), a resident of Chitradurga and a fan of Darshan, was found dead near a storm-water drain in Bengaluru. Police investigations revealed that he had allegedly sent offensive messages to Pavitra Gowda, a close associate of Darshan. This reportedly led to his abduction, assault and subsequent death.

During Monday’s proceedings, the courtroom was packed, prompting Judge IP Naik to express displeasure over the crowding. The judge asked unrelated lawyers to leave and even warned that the hearing could be postponed or held in-camera if the disturbance continued.

Once order was restored, the court began reading out the charges. According to the prosecution, Pavitra Gowda allegedly hit Renukaswamy with a slipper, while Darshan is accused of assaulting the victim’s private parts, which led to his death. The court also observed that a few accused were allegedly paid to falsely take the blame.

After signing the charge documents, Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and seven other accused were taken back to jail. The next hearing is scheduled for November 10, marking the formal start of the trial.
