PTC News Desk: The Bengaluru police has arrested a 33-year old man in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found dumped in a garbage truck in the early hours of Sunday.

The 33-year-old accused, Shamsuddin from Assam was in a live-in relationship with the 40-year-old victim, Ashaa native resident of the nearby Hulimavu area in south Bengaluru. According to the police, Asha was a widow and had reportedly been in a relationship with Shamsuddin for over a year and a half. The two had moved in together four months ago and were posing as a married couple. Both were employed at the same housekeeping materials company near Hulimavu, where they first met.

Of late the relationship began to simmer due to frequent arguments between the couple. Asha was allegedly struggling with alcohol, which became a source of conflict as she also engaged in several late-night phone calls.

On the day of incident, Shamsuddin reportedly under the influence of alcohol came home and an altercation broke out. In a fit of rage he allegedly strangled Asha to death.

The police said that he later stuffed the body into a bag, transported it on his bike for nearly 20 km, and dumped it into a BBMP garbage vehicle near a popular skating arena of the area, before fleeing.

The body was discovered within 20 hours. The investigation is underway.
