This brings the death toll to eight people. The search and rescue team continued their work to clear the debris for the third day in a row.
The building had four families living on the top floor while the ground and first floors were being used as godowns. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) worked together in a joint operation to recover the bodies of the two individuals, identified as Dinesh Tiwari (34) and Ashok Kumar Mishra (32). Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Avinash Sawant stated that the search and rescue operation was ongoing.
It was revealed that the building was owned by a popular food products company. Rescuers were taking precautions while proceeding with the operation due to the possibility of survivors still being trapped in the debris. They also had to ensure that the bodies were not damaged during the removal process.
The two bodies recovered in the morning were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. The owner of the building, Indrapal Patil, was arrested on Sunday and booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The situation is being closely monitored, and authorities continue to work to clear the debris and search for survivors.
