Bihar portfolios: Nitish Kumar gives up Home Ministry after two decades, hands it to deputy Samrat Choudhary

PTC News Desk: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given up the Home Ministry, and his deputy, BJP leader Samrat Choudhary, will now be in charge of this important department. This is the first time in about 20 years that Nitish will not handle the Home portfolio.

Before Nitish Kumar took oath, there were reports that the NDA partners were having disagreements, mainly because the JD(U) did not want to give up the Home Department. But now the Home portfolio, which Nitish held for two decades, has been handed over to Samrat Choudhary. This change shows that the BJP, JD(U)’s partner, is gaining more control in Bihar’s government.

Giving the Home Department to Samrat Choudhary also means he now has more authority. He will be responsible for law and order in Bihar and will need to deal with immigration issues in the Seemanchal region.

Another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, has been given the Land and Revenue Department and the Mines and Geology Department. Mangal Pandey will manage both the Health Department and the Law Department, while Dilip Jaiswal has been made the Industry Minister. These changes are part of a larger reshuffle in the state government.

Nitin Nabin will handle the Road Construction Department as well as the Urban Development and Housing Department. Ramkripal Yadav will be the Agriculture Minister, and Sanjay Tiger will be in charge of Labour Resources. These roles have been assigned to improve performance across departments.

Arun Shankar Prasad will oversee the Tourism Department along with Art, Culture and Youth Affairs. Surendra Mehta has been given the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department, and Narayan Prasad will look after the Disaster Management Department. The overall distribution shows the government’s focus on key areas like culture, farming, development, and disaster response.
