Bihar witnesses 22 drowning deaths in 24 hours, CM announces ex-gratia

PTC News Desk: In the last 24 hours, 22 persons from nine districts in Bihar died as a result of drowning, according to the Bihar government.

According to an official notification issued by the Government of Bihar, five instances were recorded from Bhojpur, four in Jahanabad, three in Patna, three in Rohtas, two in Darbhanga, two in Nawada, and one each in Madhepura, Kaimur, and Aurangabad district.


Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed his condolences for the deaths and announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to each of the deceased's families.

Earlier, two brothers drowned in Delhi's Yamuna Khadar neighbourhood in New Usmanpur.

According to police, as soon as they received information about the occurrence, a team was dispatched to the scene, and both boys were taken to the JPC Hospital, where the doctor declared them dead.

Following an investigation, it was found that the twin brothers, aged around 14 years, were residents of Pusta, Gamri village, Delhi.
