PTC News Desk: The BJP on Tuesday accused Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Atishi of using insensitive remarks against Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji during a discussion. BJP legislators have demanded a public apology, saying the remarks hurt Sikh sentiments.

The issue surfaced during a debate last November on a Delhi government event marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. During the discussion, AAP opposition MLAs raised concerns about air pollution, which l

BJP leaders claimed that Atishi made inappropriate remarks while Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice was being discussed, though the exact words were unclear in the available audio. Even so, BJP members argued that any disrespectful comment linked with the Guru’s name was unacceptable.

Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that even an accidental slight during such a holy discussion was a serious matter and warranted an apology. He noted that the government had already allocated the next day for a full debate on pollution.

BJP demands censure motion

Minister Ashish Sood called the incident a “cheap act,” accusing AAP MLAs of disrupting the session to avoid acknowledging the government’s tribute programme. Speaker Vijender Gupta said the matter was sensitive and that the video would be reviewed. He added that a censure motion could be introduced the following day.

BJP MLA Harish Khurana also criticised the alleged remarks and confirmed that the party would move a censure motion, stressing that a pollution debate was already scheduled.

AAP responds

In its statement, the AAP accused the BJP of using the controversy to divert attention from a meaningful discussion on pollution. The party claimed the BJP was afraid that a detailed debate would reveal its failures to the public.
