BJP Mundlana Mandal president shot dead in Haryana’s Sonepat over land dispute

PTC Web Desk: BJP Mundlana Mandal president Surender Kumar was shot dead in Sonepat’s Jawahra village on Holi evening. The assailant fired three bullets at him, two of which hit the BJP leader, leading to his death on the spot. The incident, reportedly linked to a land dispute, has been captured on video.

According to eyewitnesses, Surender Kumar was attacked by a local resident, Mannu, while he was in his neighbourhood. He was shot once in the street and then again inside a shop, where he tried to escape. The fatal bullet struck him in the head, killing him on the spot.

Investigations suggest that the murder was fueled by a dispute over land purchased by Surender Kumar from the accused’s paternal aunt. Mannu had reportedly warned Surender not to step onto the disputed land, but despite this, the BJP leader went ahead with plowing it, aggravating tensions.

On Holi evening, Mannu seized the opportunity and opened fire on Surender Kumar before fleeing the village.

Following the murder, three police teams have been deployed to track down the accused. The police are conducting raids at multiple locations and have assured that the suspect will be arrested soon.

Surender Kumar, 42, was earlier associated with Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) before joining the BJP. In January 2021, he was appointed the BJP Panchayati Raj Cell president. Recently, he was named Mundlana Mandal president in the party’s new organisational list.

He belonged to a joint family, with his parents, brother’s family, and three children (two daughters and a son) living together. His brother currently resides abroad.
