BPSC normalisation: Aspirants protest, police resort to lathi charge; chairman terms demonstration 'unwarranted'
PTC News Desk: Students strongly protested against the normalisation process in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 70th combined competitive examination which is scheduled for December 13. Students protested outside BPSC office in Patna.
However the commission later refused the charges of introduction of normalisation process and urged the students to prepare for the examination. BPSC later issued a notification asserting the news misleading.
Many protesters also demanded extension in exam date as lakhs of them could not fill out the forms due to problem in the BPSC server. Meanwhile BPSC chairman Ravi S Parmar said the protests were “unwarranted and those protesting might have some other goal to achieve than cracking the test”.
“We have made it clear that there will be one exam in one sitting. So, the question of normalisation is not there. Even if the commission had decided to hold exams in multiple shifts and go in for normalisation, it would have been well within its rights. The results of many exams in the country are normalised and it is done following due process,” he added.
Patna-based tutor and YouTuber Khan Sir also joined the protest near the Gardani Bagh designated area for protests on Friday.
Why are students protesting ?
The protesters were demanding that the BPSC preliminary examination be conducted in a “one shift, one paper" format, rather than using the ‘normalization of marks’ process. Normalization equalizes scores from exams held in multiple shifts using a statistical formula.
