US hits Iran missile sites near Hormuz, drops 2,200 kg bunker buster bombs
PTC News Desk: US forces carried out strikes on Iranian missile sites along the country’s southern coastline near the Strait of Hormuz, deploying multiple 5,000-pound (2,200 kg) bunker-buster bombs, according to the United States Central Command.
"Hours ago, U.S. forces successfully employed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on hardened Iranian missile sites along Iran’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz," the military command said in a tweet early Wednesday (IST).
The military said the strikes targeted Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles, which it claimed “posed a risk to international shipping in the strait.”
The announcement came hours after Donald Trump stated that most North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies did not want to get involved in the American military campaign in Iran.
While calling their stance a “very foolish mistake,” Trump did not indicate any plans to penalise member countries for opting out.
He added that NATO countries remained broadly supportive of the joint US-Israeli war effort, which has now entered its third week, even though they were reluctant to participate directly.
