Burdened by debt, family of seven die by suicide; bodies found locked in car
PTC News Desk: In a shocking incident, seven memberes of a family consumed poison and died by suicide in Panchkula. Their bodies were later discovered locked in a car parked outside their residence in sector 27.
The incident took place on Sunday while the family was returning to Dehradun after the event ended.
The deceased are Praveen Mittal, 42, his parents, wife and three children -- two daughters and a son.
Reportedly, the family took this drastice step as they were under heavy debt and financial distress.
Residents of Dehradun, the family had come to Panchkula to attend a spiritual event at the Bageshwar Dham.
"Upon initial probe, it seemed like a case of suicide. The forensic team has reached the spot. We will collect all the evidence from the crime scene and analyse it scientifically," senior police official Himadri Kaushik said.
The police officials said that the family was spotted by struggling inside the car as spotted by locals who immediately informed the police.
Upon arrival, the police broke open the glass and found the family members in unconscious state who were immediately rushed to the hospital where they were declared brought dead.
A suicide note has also been recovered from the incident site, confirmed police.
