Case filed against BJP MLA for crass remark against jailed actress Ranya Rao
PTC News Desk: A case has been registered against BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal over his vulgur remark against jailed Kannada actress Ranya Rao who was arrested in a gold smuggling case from Bengaluru airport earlier this month.
The case was registered under Section 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
Yatnal, an MLA from Bijapur City, made vulgar remarks against Rao over the gold smuggling and said, 'she had gold all over her body, hiding it wherever she had holes, and smuggled it in.'
Yatnal, who is a former Union Minister, also claimed that state ministers were involved in the case and said he would name them in the Assembly session.
"I will name all the ministers involved in this case during the Assembly session. I have gathered complete information about her relationships, who helped her obtain security, and how the gold was brought in. I will expose everything in the session, including where she hid the gold and how she smuggled it in," the MLA said.
Ranya Rao, the stepdaughter of Karnataka DGP Ramchandra Rao, was taken into custody at Bengaluru Airport on March 3 after being caught with 14.2 kg of gold valued at Rs 12.56 crore upon her return from Dubai. A follow-up search at her home uncovered gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash. She remains in custody after her bail request was denied.
