PTC News Desk: The Indigo airlines will terminate its lease with Turkish airlines by August 31 amid Ankara’s support for Islamabad. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed the development after the airline was granted a three month extension to avoid disrupting passenger services.

Currently, IndiGo operates two Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on a damp lease from Turkish Airlines, which it uses for direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul. The agreement was due to expire on May 31, however Indigo requested an extension of six months which was turned down by the aviation body.

In a statement, the aviation regulator said the three-month extension was “one-time, last and final” and was given “based on the undertaking from the airline that they will terminate the damp lease... and shall not seek any further extension.”

Last week, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said the ministry was reviewing inputs from IndiGo and security agencies before making a final decision on the matter.
