The orders for the derecognises of Vivek High School has been issued by Education Department Director Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar. It has been also claimed that the school is continuously violating the Right to Education Act 2009 and other rules.

Taking into consideration the students currently enrolled in the school, clearance has been granted to conclude the academic session of 2023-24. Additionally, it has been specified that existing students may come to school in the board exams. However, it has been decided that the students will not be permitted to continue their studies at this school.

The order reads, "Reject the recognition of the school dated March 29, 2023 and any other similar application of the school pending with the department; and withdraw the department recommendation for the school’s CBSE affiliation. To protect the interest of the current students in the school, they will be allowed to complete the session 2023-24 and also sit for board exams. For the academic year 2024-25, the students, with the consent of parents, shall be shifted to the neighbourhood government schools in Chandigarh.”

The Education Department's orders caused a significant uproar in the city, primarily due to the enrollment of children of high profile personalities in Vivek High School. Despite the school achives academic achievements, it has consistently failed to adhere to the provisions of the Right to Education Act 2009 by not facilitating admissions under the economically weaker section (EWS) category.

Notably, Vivek High School was established in 1984. It is managed by Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust.
