Chandigarh extends winter vacations for schools till January 13
PTC Web Desk: In view of the intensifying cold wave and the forecast of dense fog in the Union Territory, the administration has decided to keep all government and private schools closed up to Class 8 till January 13. Earlier, government schools were scheduled to remain closed till January 10.
According to earlier orders, schools were given the discretion to decide whether to conduct online classes for students up to Class 8 and for non-board classes of Classes 9 and 11. However, revised instructions have now been issued regarding school timings for board classes.
Education Department Director Nitish Singla, in orders issued on Saturday, said that government schools running in two shifts will not operate the evening shift. Students of board classes will be called only in the morning shift.
As per the guidelines, schools with Class 10 and Class 12 board classes will not open before 9:30 am and must close by 3:30 pm. The Education Department has warned that strict action will be taken against any school found violating these instructions.
The orders have been issued keeping in mind the safety and health of students amid the prevailing cold weather conditions.
