Char Dham 2023: Yatra suspended due to bad weather, officials put on alert

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), June 26: Char Dham Yatra was halted as a precautionary measure due to bad weather en route to Kedarnath and Badrinath, officials informed on Monday.

On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami gave instructions to officials to be extra cautious due to rain and snowfall during the Char Dham Yatra.


"The government has stopped the Char Dham Yatra due to bad weather conditions en route. snowfall, rains and landslides have occurred at various places and traffic has been disrupted because of the same. We appeal to the travellers coming for Char Dham Yatra to continue their journey once the weather clears up," Pushkar Singh Dhami added.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre in Uttarakhand's Dehradun and Tehri Garhwal districts projected "heavy to very heavy rain" in the next 24 hours.

The Met Centre predicted, "heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Uttarakhand's Dehradun and Tehri Garhwal districts in the next 24 hours." "Thunderstorms and lightning will accompany the rains.”

Notably, various areas in Uttarakhand have experienced heavy rains in recent days.

According to a press release, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami undertook a surprise inspection of the State Disaster Management Control Room located at the Secretariat on Sunday and obtained information about the state's heavy rain condition.

CM Dhami obtained information from the Disaster Control Room regarding the present weather, rain situation, water-logging, and rain-related damages throughout the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Haridwar had 78 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, followed by Dehradun (33.2) and Uttarkashi (27.7).

Instructing the personnel, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the districts in the state where heavy rains are still falling have a chance of receiving further rain.

"Maintain mutual communication and coordination with all those districts. So that emergency situations can be dealt with in time. He instructed the officers to always be in alert mode for disaster relief and rescue operations," CM Dhami stated.
