PTC Web Desk: The UK Government has signed an MoU with the Uttarakhand Government to offer up to five fully funded scholarships in the state for the next three years. The agreement will see up to five Uttarakhand scholars, each year, receive full financial support to pursue a one-year master’s in the UK as part of the Chevening scholarships and fellowships programme.

The MoU for the ‘Chevening Uttarakhand Higher Education Scholarship’ was signed in Dehradun on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and British Deputy High Commissioner, Chandigarh, Caroline Rowett.

Caroline Rowett said: “The UK is an excellent place to study, and I am pleased that our partnership with the Government of Uttarakhand will enable more young people to experience it. Each year, up to five scholars from Uttarakhand can pursue a master’s degree in the UK.

“Our Chevening alumni in India are among the brightest working in fields such as cyber, science and innovation, policy, and development. They are key to the UK and India’s collaboration on global challenges, forming a unique living bridge between our countries,” she added.

“International students contribute so much to the UK.  And they get so much in return. The UK is a fantastic place to come and study. Students come because they know they will receive a world class education. They come because they know it sets them up for success. Students benefit from coming to the UK, and we benefit from them being here,” she added.

About Chevening

Chevening is the UK Government’s flagship international scholarships and fellowships programme. It offers fully funded scholarships (including tuition, travel and living expense) for a one-year postgraduate course in the UK. It is mandatory for scholars to return to their home country upon completion of their course.

The Chevening programme in India is the largest in the world, benefiting over 3,800 scholars and fellows since 1983. Over 40% of Chevening scholars come from outside metro cities, are first generation learners, and belong to lesser privileged groups.

Applications for Chevening Scholarships 2025-26 are open until November 5, 2024. For details and to apply, visit www.chevening.org/apply
