Congress convenes Lok Sabha MPs' meeting at party's Parliamentary office
New Delhi, August 9: The Congress party has summoned a gathering of its Lok Sabha MPs, scheduling the meeting at the party's parliamentary office for 10:30 am on Wednesday. Concurrently, during the inaugural day of the no-confidence motion debate against the Narendra Modi government, clashes emerged between Congress and Union Ministers over Manipur's ongoing ethnic strife since May.
The Congress has accused the government of aggravating divisions in Manipur. Initiating the debate on Tuesday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi conveyed that the opposition moved the no-confidence motion to break Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "silence" on Manipur.
Gogoi emphasised that the motion's essence was justice for Manipur, not just numerical strength. He questioned the delay in the removal of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren and criticized the Chief Minister's brief response on the situation after nearly 80 days.
The debate concluded around 6 pm. The YSRCP, Shiv Sena, JDU, BJD, BSP, BRS, and LJP were granted two hours collectively, allotted based on their respective MPs' count.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to respond on August 10. Since the commencement of the monsoon session on July 20, the opposition members have persistently sought discussion under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha.
Manipur has experienced heightened tensions over three months due to ethnic clashes between the Meitis and Kukis communities. The unrest was triggered when the Manipur High Court urged the state government to consider adding one of these communities to the list of Scheduled Tribes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi faces his second no-confidence motion today, marking his first during his second term as PM.
