Cops vs Cops drama unfolds after shirtless protest accused's arrest in Himachal, standoff ends nearly after 24 hours
PTC News Desk: Shimla saw a rare and tense situation late Wednesday night when teams from the Delhi Police and Himachal Pradesh Police came face-to-face over the arrest of three Youth Congress activists. The activists were linked to last week’s “shirtless protest” at the AI Summit. What started as a normal interstate police action turned into a dramatic 24-hour standoff.
During this time, there were several detentions, police vehicles were stopped, and Himachal Pradesh Police even filed a kidnapping case against the Delhi Police officers. Eventually, the Delhi Police were allowed to leave for Delhi with the accused in their custody.
The conflict began because Himachal Pradesh Police claimed the arrests were done without proper authorisation and rules were not followed. They stopped the Delhi Police convoy several times, leading to heated arguments between officers. Himachal Pradesh is currently governed by the Congress party.
However, Delhi Police had already received transit remand from a Magistrate to take the three activists — Saurabh, Siddharth and Arbaz — to Delhi.
