Couple detained after they mention 'bomb in the bag' at Goa airport
PTC News Desk: A couple was detained after they mentioned "a bomb in the bag." It, however, turned out to be a false alarm during the security check at Goa's Dabolim International Airport, delaying their flight by nearly 90 minutes, according to an official on Wednesday.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vasco) Salim Sheikh, Atulkumar Kewat (29) of Madhya Pradesh and Tritiya Jana (29), of Kolkata, were detained after they staged a bomb hoax during a security check for an IndiGo flight from Goa to Bengaluru.
He stated that the incident occurred at 23.42 hours on Tuesday, while the couple was awaiting security clearance to board the flight.
"When they were standing in the queue, they said there is 'a bomb in the bag' ('uske bag me bomb hai'). Fellow passengers immediately informed security personnel who later checked all the luggage," he said.
The security officer in charge filed a formal complaint against the couple, who were on vacation in Goa, at the airport police station, and they were detained.
According to DSP Sheikh, the flight left for Bengaluru after a nearly 1.5-hour delay.
Both passengers were arrested and questioned by police under Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code (public mischief).
