Delhi government extends loudspeaker usage till midnight for Ramlila and Durga Puja celebrations
New Delhi, September 22: In a significant decision, the Delhi government has announced the extension of permissible loudspeaker usage hours until midnight for Ramlila and Durga Puja celebrations in the national capital. This decision, approved by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, comes as a relief for organisers and participants of these traditional festivities.
From October 15 to 24, during the Ramlila and Durga Puja festivities, event organisers will be allowed to use loudspeakers until 12 am. Previously, the usage of loudspeakers in Delhi was restricted until 10 pm, making this extension a notable change in regulations.
The move was prompted by a request made by Ramlila organisers who met with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. They sought an exemption to the existing loudspeaker usage restrictions during the festival dates, and their request has been granted.
However, it's important to note that even with this extension, event organisers will still be required to obtain permission from the Delhi Police. Additionally, they must ensure that the use of loudspeakers remains within acceptable noise levels, especially in residential areas, to avoid causing disturbances to the local residents.
The decision to extend the loudspeaker usage hours aligns with the cultural significance and tradition of Ramlila and Durga Puja celebrations, providing a conducive environment for the festive spirit to thrive. Durga Puja is scheduled to be celebrated from October 20 to October 24 this year, and this extension will undoubtedly enhance the celebratory atmosphere for participants and attendees alike.
