'WFH, artificial rain, odd-even scheme': Delhi government's winter action plan to reduce air pollution

PTC News Desk: Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai has launched the Winter Action Plan for the national capital, under which the AAP government intends to reduce air pollution in the city. The AAP government announced a 21-point action plan for the coming months, including emergency measures such as work-from-home (WFH) for offices and artificial rain.

Speaking about the action plan, Gopal Rai stated that high-pollution locations in Delhi will be monitored using drones. Drone monitoring will be conducted in real-time to determine the cause of the excessive air pollution in these places. The government will also launch an anti-dust campaign and deploy road-sweeping machines around Delhi.

"A ban on firecrackers will be implemented this year as well, and once the notification is released, the ban will be strictly enforced. GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) stages will be implemented, and 588 teams have been formed to combat open burning of garbage," Rai stated.

The minister also stated that in the case of an emergency caused by significant pollution, offices will be urged to work from home and to reduce their use of private vehicles voluntarily. The odd-even vehicle scheme could potentially be employed during peak pollution season.

The Delhi government is also preparing for artificial rain to improve the city's air quality between November 1 and 15, when Diwali and stubble burning cause heavy pollution.

A special task group of six people has been constituted to monitor pollution levels and take appropriate measures.
