Delhi Liquor scam: AAP's Sanjay Singh sent to judicial custody until October 27 in liquor policy case

New Delhi, October 13: Today, a Delhi court ruled that AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who stands accused in a money laundering case connected to the purported Delhi excise scam, will remain in judicial custody until October 27. The decision was made by Special Judge MK Nagpal when Singh was presented before the court following the conclusion of his earlier custodial custody.

Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, had been apprehended by the anti-money laundering agency on October 4. The Enforcement Directorate has leveled allegations that Singh played a pivotal role in devising and implementing a now-abandoned policy that extended financial advantages to particular liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers in exchange for monetary considerations.

Singh stands accused by the ED of playing a pivotal role in creating and executing the now-defunct liquor policy. The AAP-led Delhi government revoked the policy following a CBI probe ordered by L-G Anil Saxena. Allegedly, the policy favored certain liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers, potentially at the expense of the public exchequer, and in exchange for illicit gains.

On October 10, a trial court extended Singh's custody with the Enforcement Directorate until October 13. Subsequently, Singh filed a petition with the Delhi High Court to contest his arrest. Meanwhile, AAP supporters staged protests near the BJP headquarters in the national capital against Singh's detention.
