Heavy rain batters Delhi-NCR: Orange alert issued; IndiGo releases travel advisory
Delhi-NCR Rain Updates: The Delhi-NCR region was lashed by intense rainfall on Friday morning, leading to waterlogging in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert. Earlier, a yellow warning for Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar) and Ghaziabad was upgraded in response to worsening conditions.
Air travel passengers have been urged to exercise caution. While the Delhi Airport confirmed that operations remain unaffected, it advised travellers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for real-time updates.
IndiGo Airlines also posted an advisory on X (formerly Twitter), urging passengers to check flight details in advance and factor in delays while heading to the airport: “Light showers have begun in Delhi skies. Though roads are largely clear, some areas may see slow movement. Please plan your travel accordingly.”
Waterlogging reported in Delhi
Despite the heavy showers, major disruptions have not been reported yet. However, visuals from Sangam Vihar’s Neem Chowk Road showed vehicles struggling to move through waterlogged stretches, raising concerns about traffic snarls during the day. The latest spell of rains has added to monsoon troubles across North India.
In Punjab, nearly 835 villages remain inundated, forcing the Indian Army to intensify rescue operations. In Himachal Pradesh, as per the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 524 roads, including two national highways, are blocked. In addition, 1,230 power transformers are down, and 416 water supply schemes are non-functional. Flash floods and cloudbursts continue to create havoc in multiple districts of Jammu & Kashmir.
