Delhi to ban entry of non-BS-VI commercial vehicles from November 1 to curb pollution
PTC Web Desk: Starting November 1, all commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not comply with BS-VI emission norms will be barred from entering the national capital, following the directive of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
The new rule aims to reduce vehicular pollution by ensuring only cleaner and more efficient BS-VI compliant vehicles operate within the city. According to a public notice issued by the Delhi Transport Department, BS-IV compliant commercial vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi only till October 31, 2026, as a temporary relaxation.
The government clarified that there will be no restrictions on vehicles that are: registered in Delhi, BS-VI compliant diesel vehicles, BS-IV compliant diesel vehicles (till October 31, 2026), or vehicles running on CNG, LNG, or electricity.
Officials also stated that the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) restrictions on goods vehicles will continue to apply depending on the pollution level and the stage in force.
The decision was taken during a CAQM meeting on October 17, where the authorities approved a comprehensive ban on polluting commercial vehicles entering Delhi to tackle worsening air quality.
