Delhi on 'alert' as Yamuna crosses danger mark

The Yamuna River in Delhi, which has been flowing over the warning level for hours, crossed the danger mark of 205.33 metres around 5 p.m. on Monday, according to the most recent flood control department data.

The water level at the Old Railway Bridge rose 205.4 metres at 5 p.m. on Monday, according to the flood advisory. The Yamuna's water level is steadily rising as Haryana releases more water into the river from the Hathnikund dam amid showers throughout northwest India, including the national capital.

At 1 p.m., the Yamuna passed the 204.5-metre warning mark.

At 3 p.m., approximately 2,15,677 cusecs of water were discharged through the Hathnikund barrage, according to the Flood Control Department.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that the government is on high alert and completely prepared to deal with the situation.

"Delhi government is on full alert. As the water will go above 206 metres, we will start shifting people, living on the banks. The process of taking them safely to the relief camp will be started. Earlier we were feeling that the water level would cross 205 meters on June 11, but it has crossed 205 meters today itself because more water is being released from Haryana," he said.
