Wrestlers' issue: Police files cancellation report in 'minor's case' against WFI chief Brij Bhushan

New Delhi, June 15: New Deli, June 15: In a major development in sexual harassment allegation against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by wrestlers, police have filed a 500-page cancellation report in a minor's case in Delhi Patiala House Court.

The next hearing on the matter has been scheduled for July 4. A Cancellation Report is filed in cases when no corroborative evidence is found.

"We have filed the final report in the POCSO case; the next date of hearing is the 4th of July," said Atul Srivastava, Special Public Prosecutor

The development comes as the June 15 deadline to file a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh ends today.

Minor wrestler's father changed statement against Brij Bhushan

The father of a minor wrestler claimed to have "corrected" his previous statement regarding Brij Bhushan Singh's case and that he had made a false complaint against the wrestler "out of anger" last week

Olympian Bajrang Punia later claimed that the father of the minor girl had said that he "was under a lot of pressure" and that the entire family was "in depression".

He had stated that the wrestlers will stage a larger protest if the government did not file the chargesheet in the complaint by June 15 as assured.

Chargesheet filed against Brij Bhushan

Delhi Police filed the chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday.

Before the chargesheet was filed, there was tight security surrounding Brij Bhushan's residence in Delhi. According to reports, almost 180 people were questioned in relation to the allegations against Brij Bhushan, and 25 people recorded statements against him.

Chargesheet has been filed under sections 354, 354D, 345A IPC, said Suman Nalwa, PRO, Delhi Police.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur met with Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshee Malikkh on June 7 and told them that a chargesheet in this case would be submitted by June 15. The wrestlers' protests were put on hold after this assurance.

Delhi Police have written to five wrestling federations across the world to inquire about alleged sexual harassment instances involving Singh. The federations have yet to answer, but the police will submit a supplementary chargesheet once they do.
