ED raids Bengal minister's premises in jobs scam probe

PTC News Desk: Officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residences of Bengal Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose, Trinamool MLA Tapas Roy, and a former municipality vice-chairman today. The searches are part of a broader investigation into a municipal jobs scam that allegedly occurred at various civic bodies in West Bengal between 2014 and 2018.

The premises associated with Minister Sujit Bose, Trinamool MLA Tapas Roy, and the former vice-chairman of the municipality were subjected to searches starting at 6:40 am. This move by the ED comes in the wake of the Calcutta High Court's April 2023 directive to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate irregularities in municipal recruitments.

Both the ED and the CBI are scrutinizing the alleged irregularities in recruitment processes conducted by the civic bodies. On June 7, the CBI conducted raids at 16 locations, seizing documents from multiple civic bodies in districts like Nadia, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, and the Salt Lake municipality. In August 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition by the West Bengal government challenging the CBI's investigation into the case.

In a subsequent development on October 5, the Enforcement Directorate conducted searches at various locations, including the residence of Food and Supplies Minister Rathin Ghosh, related to the ongoing recruitment case.
