Election Commission announces SIR in 22 states including Punjab, Haryana from April 2026

PTC News Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared that the upcoming phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence in April.

Instructions have been sent to the remaining 22 states and Union Territories — including Delhi, Maharashtra, and Karnataka — to initiate groundwork for the exercise.

This decision follows the near completion of the SIR process in 12 states.

Officials stated that the revision drive began in June with Bihar and was later extended to several other states, such as West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. In West Bengal, where Assembly polls are due soon, the Commission has prolonged the revision timeline to ensure thorough verification of voter data.

The next phase will cover Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.

Authorities added that a detailed schedule will be announced at a later date. No elections are slated in these states or Union Territories this year.
