Fire breaks out at Jungle Jamboree restaurant in Rajouri Garden; people jump off building to escape flames
PTC Web Desk: A fire broke out at the Jungle Jamboree restaurant in West Delhi's Rajouri Garden market on Monday, leading to a terrifying situation where several people, including students from an institute, had to jump off the building to escape the flames.
The authorities confirmed that a person sustained minor injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, though the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said the fire call was received at 2:01 pm, prompting the immediate dispatch of 10 fire tenders to control the blaze. "The fire was quickly contained, but the damage is still being assessed," he said.
The fire, which created thick black smoke, caused panic among nearby shopkeepers and passersby. Videos circulating on social media showed people leaping from the restaurant’s terrace to an adjacent building in a desperate attempt to save themselves.
Sources said over 25 persons were inside the building when the fire broke out. The building, which houses several shops on the ground floor, Jungle Jamboree restaurant (which was closed at the time), and an institute called MAAC Rajouri, saw minimal damage to the ground-floor establishments.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the blaze, while the owners of the establishments have been asked to account for all those who were present during the incident.
