Former Jharkhand CM and JMM founder, Shibu Soren passes away at 81
PTC News Desk: Former Jharkhand CM and JMM founder Shibu Soren died at the age of 81 at Delhi's Gangaram hospital after prolonged illness.
His son and current Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the death, saying, "Respected Guru Dishom has left us all. Today, I have become empty".
He had been admitted to a hospital in Delhi due to kidney related ailment for last week of June.
Fondly known as 'Dishoom Guru' by his supporters, Shibhu Soren has been a prominent leader in Indian politics serving as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on three separate occasions and as a Union Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes to Shibu Soren, as condolences poured in from across the political spectrum and beyond.

PM Modi remembered Soren for his 'unwavering dedication to the people' and described him as a leader deeply committed to empowering the downtrodden.
"Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji and expressed condolences. Om Shanti," the PM tweeted.
Born on January 11, 1944, in Nemra village—now part of Jharkhand—Shibu Soren hailed from a Santhal tribal family and emerged as a passionate defender of tribal rights. His political career began with grassroots activism, focusing on securing land rights for tribal communities and resisting exploitative landlord practices.
A prominent tribal leader and a co-founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Soren steered the party for nearly forty years. He assumed leadership in 1987 and held the position of party president unchallenged until April 2025.
