G20 Summit: Delhi Traffic Police release advisory on road closures; find out affected routes
PTC Web Desk: In the run-up to the G20 Summit scheduled to take place in the national capital from September 8 to 10, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory.
Special CP (Traffic) SS Yadav has stated that specific measures will be implemented in New Delhi area due to the summit's venue being the recently constructed Bharat Mandapam convention centre in Pragati Maidan, under India's presidency. These restrictions are set to be enforced starting from the evening of September 7 until September 10.
Residents of New Delhi will be allowed to move freely while those arriving from different districts within Delhi or tourists from other locations will be required to provide valid hotel reservations to gain entry into the area.
The traffic police have cautioned people against visiting markets situated within New Delhi region on September 8, 9, and 10.
Special CP (Traffic) SS Yadav said the Delhi Traffic Police would implement measures to restrict cargo trucks from entering Delhi during the three-day period. Instead, these trucks would be redirected to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways. However, vehicles with proper authorisation or transporting essential goods would be granted entry into the national capital. Interstate buses will be permitted to enter Delhi.
Vehicles deployed for emergency services and ambulances would not be subjected to any restrictions. Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg and Purana Qila Road will be inaccessible for regular traffic. With the exception of ambulances, no other vehicles, including DTC buses, would be permitted in New Delhi vicinity. All malls and markets within the New Delhi area will remain closed during this period.
Travellers planning to reach the airport or railway stations during the period from September 8 to 10 are advised to commence their journey ahead of time.
Amidst the G20 Summit, the traffic police have urged people to avail Delhi Metro service for essential travel during this period. Although the services of the Delhi Metro will be in operation, certain stations within the New Delhi region, including Supreme Court, Khan Market, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat, are anticipated to remain closed throughout the three-day event.

A virtual helpdesk will also be opened to provide users with pertinent information regarding available transportation services, ambulance provisions, and police assistance.
Anticipated to be graced by numerous heads of state, the G20 Summit is set to host prominent figures such as US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The dignitaries are scheduled to arrive in India on September 9, with a lavish gala dinner organised in their honour on that day. The agenda also includes a visit to Rajghat by the attendees on September 10.
