Gaganyaan Mission: ISRO launches uncrewed first flight test from Sriharikota after first attempt was aborted
Gaganyaan Mission: Marking the first step towards sending Indians to space, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched first flight test from Sriharikota today.
The first unmanned flight test designated as the Test Vehicle Development Flight Mission-1 (TV-D1 Flight Test), has been launched from Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota by ISRO.
After the successful accomplishment of Gaganyaan TV-D1 mission, ISRO Chief S Somanath says, "I am very happy to announce the successful accomplishment of the TV-D1 mission. The purpose of this mission was to demonstrate the crew escape system for the Gaganyaan program through a test vehicle demonstration in which the vehicle went up to a Mach number, which is slightly above the speed of sound and initiated an abort condition for the crew escape system to function. The crew escape system took the crew module away from the vehicle and subsequent operations including the touch-down at the sea have been very well accomplished. and we have a confirmation of the data for all of this..."

This mission represents a significant milestone in India's effort to demonstrate that it is possible to send humans into space.
Around 20 major tests, including 3 uncrewed missions of the Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM3), are planned.
Earlier, at 8:30 am at the first attempt of launching, Gaganyaan Mission was aborted due to snag.
The test flight project aims to prove India's capacity to send humans into a 400-kilometre orbit and safely bring them back to the earth with a splashdown in the Bay of Bengal Sea.
Gaganyaan project envisages a demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of 3 members to an orbit of 400 km for a 3-day mission and bringing them back safely to earth, by landing in Indian sea waters.
This program makes India the fourth nation to launch a manned spaceflight mission after the US, Russia, and China.
Gaganyaan test is a significant milestone for the overall Gaganyaan programme as a near-complete system is integrated for a flight test. The success of this test flight is all set the stage for the remaining qualification tests and unmanned missions, leading to the first Gaganyaan mission with Indian astronauts.
Gaganyaan mission entails the safe transportation of astronauts to space and back. A crucial component of this mission is the deployment of drogue parachutes, which play a pivotal role in stabilizing the crew module and reducing its velocity to a safe level during re-entry.
