Gurmeet Ram Rahim denied parole sans court approval
PTC News Desk: The repeated grant of parole to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, serving a 20-year sentence for rape, has faced scrutiny from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Ram Rahim, who received a 50-day parole in January, marked his seventh parole in nearly 10 months and ninth in the past four years.
Responding to concerns, the high court has instructed the Haryana government to ensure Ram Rahim's surrender on March 10, the scheduled end date of his current parole. Additionally, the court mandated that future parole requests for Ram Rahim must be approved by the judiciary.
In a further development, the court has demanded data from the state government regarding the number of individuals granted parole under similar circumstances.
