Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday described the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar as an “unfortunate and tragic incident”, assuring the officer’s family of strict action and a fair investigation into the matter.

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday wrote a condolence letter to Amneet P Kumar, wife of late Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who died by suicide citing prolonged caste-based discrimination by senior cops of the state.

Haryana Additional Chief Secretary D Suresh Kumar on Friday called for a “fair and quick investigation” and the immediate arrest of the accused in connection with the death of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.
The comments followed the lodging of an FIR against Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya, based on a complaint filed by IAS officer Amneet Puran Kumar, the wife of the deceased officer.
Haryana ADGP Y Puran Kumar's wife has alleged that Chandigarh Police has "did not show any dignity" in handling the body. According to the sources, earier the family had agreed to conduct the post mortem followed by cremation today, however uncertainty looms large over the procedure over the prevailing clash.
PTC News Desk: Four days after 2001-batch IPS officer Y Puran Kumar died by suicide at his sector 11 residence in Chandigarh, the family has reportedly agreed to the post mortem.
The post mortem of IPS officer will be conducted at PGI, Chandigarh after his mortal remains are brought from sector 16 hospital. According to the sources, the family took this decision after persuasion from the top functionaries of the Haryana Government.
